Dilution

Essential oils are strong and highly concentrated extracts obtained from plants. For example, lavender, as a plant that contains terpenes in large quantities, can give up to 1 liter of essential oil from about 200 kg of flowers, while about 60 roses are needed to get just one drop of pure essential oil.

Whether used for aromatherapy or as natural perfumes, these extracts must be used with great respect and care.

ALL essential oils, CO2 extracts and organic extracts (collectively referred to as natural aromatics) should be properly diluted before application to the skin. The use of undiluted (pure) essential oils repeatedly on the skin can lead to irritation and sensitivity. Not only are essential oils safer diluted, but it has long been found that aromatics in general and essential oils in particular are highly active at low concentrations.

There are several exceptions to this rule, especially the use of pure essential oils in a very small area, such as minor injuries or scratches, warts, burns or insect bites. The values below serve as a reference for the correct oil dilution according to the application.

These recommendations do not apply to children, elderly and pregnant women. We recommend that you consult a professional aromatherapist before applying essential oils to these individuals or people with special sensitivity.

NOTE: Not all essential oils and organic extracts are soluble in carriers (fats), oils or alcohol (especially low percentage) – and not all of them are soluble in water (without an emulsifier).
