Cannabis Essential Oil

There are several types of oils made from cannabis/hemp available on the market:

  1. 1. Regular oil (from seeds)

  2. It is a standard vegetable oil which is obtained by cold pressing of hemp seeds. It is mainly used in gastronomy and cosmetics.

  3. 2. CBD oil (from flowers)

  4. It is obtained from flowers by supercritical fluid extraction with CO2.

  5. 3. Essential oil (leaves and flowers)

  6. It is obtained by steam distillation from hemp leaves and flowers.

Cannabis essential oil has been on the market for at least 20 years. One of the reasons why not many companies offer it for sale is a lack of awareness that it actually exists. Another reason may be that it does not contain any unusual substances – it consists almost exclusively of commonly occurring monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, however their some of them are present in large amounts occur, such as 15% of beta-caryophyllene, which has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Content of psychoactive THC

What are the contents of THC in the three types of cannabis oils mentioned above?

1. Regular hemp oil does not contain cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), otherwise present in the plant.

2. CBD oil obtained by CO2 extraction contains CBD, but THC is removed from it or its content is reduced to a legal limit of 0.3% in the final product. In this process, terpenes are removed, which reduces the therapeutic effects. This is where HOLY ESSENTIAL OIL comes in handy – it will make your CBD drops whole again.

3. Essential oil made from cannabis by means of steam distillation may potentially contain an extremely small amount of THC or CBD, however cannabinoids in such trace amounts do not provide any perceptible therapeutic effects:

“Because of its low volatility and water insolubility (Malingré et al. 1975), THC concentrations in the essential oils were low. Therefore, the use of this steam distilled oil for drug purposes is not expected.” [Mediavilla and Steinemann, “Essential oil of Cannabis sativa L. strains,” Journal of the International Hemp Association, 4 (2): 82-84]

Main active components

Cannabis essential oil consists mainly of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. What makes it exceptional is the high content of beta-caryophyllene (10 to 20%). Beta-caryophyllene is a sesquiterpene with great medical potential due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-epileptic properties. It reacts with cannabinoid receptors, so it is recognized by scientists as a cannabinoid-mimetic.

Typical cannabis scent comes from about 140 different terpenoids. The components identified were 92% monoterpenes, 7% sesquiterpenes and about 1% other compounds (ketones, esters). Hemp essential oil usually consists primarily of monoterpenes that are light and milder.

Holy Essential Oil is made from low-THC cannabis varieties. Since most phytocannabinoids are almost insoluble in water, cannabis essential oil contains only trace amounts of cannabinoids.
